Reader’s Question:

I want to save money on my premium rate by limiting my coverage. What are the common coverages I would practically just be needing to include in my auto insurance policy?

There are two things to consider when figuring out the auto insurance you would practically need in your car insurance policy.

First, determine what your state law requires. Forty seven states would majorly require liability insurance. This pays for bodily injury and property damages resulting to auto accident caused to another party. There are some states which require specific coverage such as PIP (Personal Injury Protection) which compensates medical bills and lost wages as result of an auto accident.

Determine what you would personally and most likely need. That could depend on how often you drive the car, your daily activities or nature of work, the value of the car you drive, and or other insurances you already acquired. If for instance you have an old car which breaks down often, then it’s impractical to include comprehensive or collision in your coverage.

Choosing your car insurance coverage would depend on how much you are able and want to pay in case of an event. It is important to note then which one you would practically need to avoid bigger expenses out from your own pocket when necessity comes along.
